The large chateau in Telč is referred to as a pearl of Moravian Renaissance architecture with very well-preserved interiors.
The chateau was built in the place of the original Gothic castle. The building was inspired by Italian Renaissance. The chateau is characteristic with arcades on the second courtyard, and with an impressive, richly decorated library.
A huge castle founded by an important family of lords of Lichtemburk at the beginning of the 14th century. The castle did not surrender even when besieged during the Thirty Year´s War.
Originally a medieval fortress, later changed into a Renaissance chateau and finally rebuilt into a huge Baroque chateau completed with a French-style garden.
